July 2026 Update

The Month of July

Environment: In a cabin in St. Mary's (MT), just outside of Glacier

C1x

I said I was done with C1x, and I was. But there were a few things I wanted to wrap up before I fully took a break from coding.

First, C1x's course system wasn't quite ready to accommodate an expanded course list, something I knew I'd want if I revisited C1x development. If I wanted to get C1x a bigger audience, I'd need to have a more robust list of courses for easier app usage. To prep for this, I built a couple new features into C1x, including more in-depth course information and a GPS feature for selecting courses based on location, not just a list of names.

Outside of this, I implemented a few more bug fixes to be included if I decide to ever issue another C1x update, and I created a list of potential new features to visit later. I also updated the C1x landing and store pages, did a little bit of marketing for the last update on Instagram, and sold some discs and C1x minis at the USWDGC fly-mart that was in our backyard at the Brighton ski resort. I filmed one final C1x video recapping all my progress in the last five months. And then I finally took a break.

Disc Golf

There wasn't a ton in the way of my own disc golf improvements this month, but Michaela did play in the USWDGC. I got to caddy for all four rounds and volunteered as a spotter for a couple mornings. I got lots of practice at disc golf coaching as a result, and did still play some practice rounds alongside Michaela with putting practice and fieldwork sessions. Still more disc golf than I played last month, including a couple of rounds up in Boise as well.

With the Utah State Championships on the horizon in a couple of weeks, I also decided that it's time I take disc golf a bit more seriously. I've been hanging around the top of the Utah leaderboards for a while without any big wins, and my lack of consistent playing this year hasn't helped my game any. So in typical Dylan fashion, I started to plan.

I finished a test version this month of a new page on my website (it's a secret page, not public) which functions as my disc golf training plan. Filled with milestones and rewards for motivation, I ultimately hope that it will get me out on the course more often and more intentional with my training. The goal of the plan is to hit a rating of 1020. I think this is very doable, and I think I'll stick with it because I'm tired of not winning tournaments.

Project Management

There's not a ton that's new with either PROTECS or SPARC. My project with PROTECS started to get a bit busier this month, and I got to have my first in-person argument with a city planning official over one of my projects.

We started up our next cohort at SPARC, and I've been doing a lot of work to refine the programming modules for the sessions. Not my favorite work, but I am getting to learn alongside creating the presentations, and they will hopefully be something that far outlasts my own tenure with SPARC. I'm still building out operational systems in the background for SPARC, and am wrapping up design on roughly $2.5m of construction work. All fun things. I'm also still hoping that SPARC will start up a venture fund so I can get exposure to that world, and I read a couple of books in preparation.

Other

We took a couple of trips this month. One to Boise over the 4th of July, and another to San Diego for Comic-Con. Boise included disc golf, float trips, springs, and hiking. Comic-Con was great in our Avatar-themed outfits (i've never had my picture taken so much), and we did an absurd amount of walking to all of the Avatar-themed exhibits, including outside activations and the Hall H panel. We also took a brief road trip up to L.A. and spent time around the ocean.

I'm still keeping up with the Substack posts, and I made some improvements to my own website. I spent a little time watching the World Cup, and kept up with my running training including my longest distance at 11 miles (an early morning run). I kept up my guitar practice, did some rock climbing, and did a complete overhaul of my personal management system.

I also completed the paperwork to finalize my LLC (my operating agreement), set up a new email, and opened a new bank account for it. Lloyd Ventures is official. I updated my profiles and project descriptions on Upwork and Fiverr in the hope of getting some work through them, and continued playing in my advanced volleyball league.

I built a website for a friend and a project she's hoping to pursue, and we had our usual number of social outings. Lots of different projects this month, but I think it's time to get back to focusing on disc golf next month.

Onward,

Dylan
