September 2025 Update

The Month of September
Environment: My desk
This month was all about wrapping up and releasing C1x
C1x Development
C1x is released! I ended up pushing multiple updates leading up to this with numerous bug fixes, some that I found after C1x was already approved by Apple and Google, but I'm happy to say that all updates are out and the app seems to be doing well! I'm currently on V1.0.3, and I've already gotten quite a bit of feedback on what new features people would like to see.
I got somewhere between 80 and 100 downloads on the first day, and have even gotten comments from a couple of pros about the app (although I did reach out to them first). I've got a long list of potential features to start working on for C1x, but I'm biding my time a bit now to try and feel out whether that's a direction I want to go in.
I've been running free and paid advertising campaigns to drive traffic to the app, and I've been doing a couple of giveaways with the local disc golf club. I've even been trying to hand out branded mini discs on the course and have put a flyer up at the busiest course in town (5th busiest course in the world according to UDisc), so I'm trying to hit marketing from a few different angles in an attempt to spread the word about C1x. Results seem promising so far, but we'll see where things stand next month.
Professional Disc Golf
I'm still showing signs of improvement on my backhand form, and did a ton of putting practice over the past month. I had a huge breakthrough on my putting under tournament pressure, which was essentially just convincing myself to not care about the result of the putt. Seems an overly simplified fix, but I tried it for the first time at the Creekside Open, a three-round B-Tier, and literally did not miss a putt inside of C1 for the entire tournament. I also made 4-5 C2 putts over the course of the weekend.
I've got some ideas for how to keep disc golf training fun as I head into the offseason, and I've been trying to focus on my pull through and off-hand movement when throwing. It's slow progress, but I'm hopeful that it will start feeling natural over time.
I did at least cash at Creekside, something that was definitely not a guarantee this season, and I'm looking forward to improving and getting back out to big events next year.
Substack
I've been doing a better job of dedicating time to writing, and I do think my Substack posts have improved slightly as a result. I also think I'm probably just getting a little better at it -- it's been at least a few months since I started. No changes otherwise, just continuing to do it.
Other
Chess lessons are back in full swing, and I'm still sitting in limbo with regard to a potential career change. Still at the same job with no immediate plans to leave, but things could change quickly. I also started a second season of men's rec basketball, which has been a blast and a great way to get me running around on a Thursday night.
I was inspired to try out music production, specifically sampling, and got my first mini-sampler a few weeks ago. I haven't really messed with it yet as I've been focusing on getting C1x out the door, but I'll start to play around with it in the coming weeks.
I started up a couple of new habits, namely doing a chess puzzle every morning from a ridiculously hard book I found, and trying a brief transcendental meditation session shortly after I wake up. Too early to say whether I notice a difference on days where I meditate, but it certainly isn't hurting anything.
I don't have many updates outside of this. Michaela and I traveled to Midway for a couple of days to attend a conference with her lab, but otherwise we were hanging around SLC. I've started to think a bit about what I want to spend my time on now that I'm largely finished with C1x, but no breakthroughs yet.
Onward,
Dylan
