August 2026 Update

The Month of August

Switching up the format on these starting this month — going with a quick bullet list instead of full write-ups, just to make these easier to keep up with.

Environment: Writing at my desk after putting this off for two weeks

  • Spent a week road tripping around Glacier National Park with friends and family, including two close bear encounters and roughly 40 miles of hiking around the possibly the most beautiful place I've ever been. Highline Trail and Grinnell Glacier were incredible.
  • Spent three days in Sandpoint, Idaho. Possibly the only town I've visited in the mountains that felt like a beach town. Also set a disc golf course record and got close at two other courses in the area.
  • Continued training to pace my friend at her ultramarathon - worked up to 12 miles this month and got more runs in on trail
  • Updated my disc golf training plan and maintained it - lots of disc golf rounds, fieldwork, putting, and strength training
  • Hit my goal of finishing top 10 at the Utah State Disc Golf Championships, even with an injury on my throwing hand
  • Attended another neighborhood chess club right after a run, going undefeated despite using beer to rehydrate. I also got to play a little chess with my brother over the Glacier trip.
  • Continued PM work at SPARC, including coordinating logistics for the cohort and starting to build out the rest of our programming modules for future cohorts
  • Kept up my weekly Substack writing
  • Set up new internet at our apartment
  • Conducted a little annual review around my birthday (something I'd like to start doing every year just to look back at what worked, what didn't, and what I should do more of)
  • Weekly sand volleyball league and a bit of indoor and outdoor rock climbing
  • Developed the dangerous habit of playing League of Legends with a good friend - it's quite fun, but also quite consuming
  • Started building out a new system to better track and manage my personal finances (a bit necessary with everything I have going on at the moment)
  • Compiled and presented a construction proposal for a seven-figure project at my day job
  • Played lots of guitar
  • I didn't code anything in C1x - can you believe it?

Onward,

Dylan
